How is FlexJobs different from other job boards?
FlexJobs is different from other online job boards in many ways.
First, you won’t find job scams, too-good-to-be-true business opportunities, ads, commission-only jobs, or junk jobs on FlexJobs.
Second, flexible jobs are the entire focus of our job board. And every flexible job we post is first vetted by a real person who spends as much as 30 minutes per job making sure it meets our rigorous criteria before we serve it up to you.
Third, you don't have to spend hours browsing through job listings looking for keywords like "flexible" or "remote." We do all the legwork for you, so all you have to do is log in to find the best, most current, remote, part-time, freelance, and other flexible jobs available.

How and when was FlexJobs started?
FlexJobs was started in 2007 by Sara Sutton, an experienced entrepreneur, because of her own frustrating experience trying to find good, professional jobs that also offered flexible work options. (Read more about FlexJobs’ 10th Anniversary celebration here!) At the time, Sara was pregnant with her first son and she wanted an opportunity in line with her career that offered work flexibility like remote work or a flexible schedule. She was amazed at the overwhelming number of scams and bogus jobs in the remote job niche, and thought there should be one place where professionals could find legitimate, professional-level remote and flexible jobs all in one place. Sara put the idea into action by founding FlexJobs in 2007.
Having previously co-founded an entry-level employment service in 1995 (JobDirect, later sold to Korn|Ferry International in 2000), Sara has long been passionate about helping people find jobs that make their lives better. FlexJobs was started with this in mind--to help professionals find legitimate, career-oriented jobs with flexible options like remote work, flexible scheduling, freelance opportunities, and professional part-time roles, and to help them find these jobs in a safe, easy, and efficient way!
Also, since Sara started FlexJobs, her passion hasn't stopped there. She also started Remote.co, a resource for companies that see remote work as a window of opportunity. In addition, for her work in the technology and employment fields, Sara has joined the World Economic Forum's Young Global Leader group, won a Workforce Management Game Changers Award, and was highlighted as a Rising Star: 10 CEOs to Watch by American Express OPEN Forum.
Hear Sara discuss her expert tips to find flexible work as part of our 10th Anniversary Celebration!

Is FlexJobs an employment agency or recruiting service?
No, FlexJobs is not like an employment agency, staffing service, temp firm, or headhunter. We do not place people into positions, nor do we manage the payment process between an employer and the employees or freelancers who they might hire through our site.
FlexJobs is a job service that curates flexible, professional, and legitimate job opportunities and puts them into one easy place for you to find them (and also allows pre-screened, approved employers to find candidates who fit their hiring needs and then reach out to them directly).

Can I hide my resume profile, so that my current employer can’t find it?
Your privacy is very important to us. Once you create and complete a resume profile, you can set it to “Inactive” with the toggle button. This ensures that it is not visible to anyone besides you. To apply for jobs you will need to mark your resume profile as "Active” (only visible to employers registered with FlexJobs) with the toggle button, apply for a job or multiple jobs, then go back and reset your account to "Inactive" once you are done applying. Read more tips on the FlexJobs blog about keeping your job search a secret from your current employer.
You have control over the privacy and information shared to FlexJobs employers and have the option to keep your information from being seen by anyone but specific employers you outreach to and want to connect with.

Do I have to pay to see the full job listings?
While FlexJobs offers a wide variety of free job-related information, to access the full job listings in our current database, you have to be a paid member. In addition to being able to instantly view and apply to 71,210 jobs from 5,724 companies, there are other benefits to being a paid member, such as the opportunity to get contacted directly by employers hiring for flexible jobs, the ability to take unlimited Skills Tests (each typically valued at $14.99), access to our Member Perks (only available to paid subscribers), and more.
Free visitors to the site can view a short version of all current job listings to get an actual sense of what is available. Also, we provide useful and comprehensive resources that can help you in your job search, such as our Guide to the Best Companies for Flexible Jobs (which includes extensive historical hiring data on over 40,000 companies that hire for flexible jobs!) and our Job Search Articles (with thousands of articles to guide and support your job search).

Is my satisfaction guaranteed?
Yes! FlexJobs' Satisfaction Guarantee states that if you are not satisfied with the quality of our service for any reason, simply cancel your subscription and request a refund (by phone, email, or our Client Service virtual chat). We will quickly and promptly process a refund within 14 days of creating or renewing a subscription. The bottom line is that we want you to be happy with our service, and we'll do whatever we can to make that happen.
-
Can I pause my account and what happens?
Yes! We know that life can be busy or things come up, so to provide more flexibility we allow you the option to pause your account for up to 30 days. This means that when your account is paused it will not be counted as active days on your current subscription.
For example: You are 10 days into a 1-month subscription, but some family decides to surprise you with a visit (hopefully this is a good thing!), so you don’t think you’ll be able to use your account much in the coming couple of weeks. Rather than cancelling your account and starting over later, you instead can set your account to “Pause.” And then, when they leave and you have time to get down to business again with your job search, you un-pause your account and still have the remaining 20 days left to use.
To pause your account, simply go to your Account Management > Subscription tab, click on the Pause option, and follow the prompts. Once your account is paused, your current renewal date will be pushed back by 30 days as a default. However, as described in the example above, you are welcome to log in and un-pause your account anytime before that if you want to.
-
Can I upgrade my FlexJobs account?
Yes, you can upgrade your FlexJobs account at any time. Many members start off with short-term membership lengths to see if the service is a good fit for their job search. When they discover the great benefits of being a FlexJobs member, they choose to extend their membership for the great discounts offered. We’ve heard from lots of successful job seekers who say the price of their FlexJobs membership was well worth it!
To extend your membership by paying the difference between what you already paid for the current term and the amount of your new length of term, simply go to the "Subscription" tab in the account settings section and select "Upgrade." This will take you through prompts that will explain and bill through the longer term subscription you are seeking.
-
I am requesting a password reset and not receiving it. What's going on?
If you submit a password reset from the system and you do not receive it, please check your spam/junk folder in your email. Unfortunately, some email providers will block or file those notices automatically. Also, we have had issues with Comcast blocking password requests, so if you are using a Comcast email address, please contact Client Services and we can manually update your password for you.
-
Why is it that when I log into FlexJobs, I can see my name, but I can't apply for jobs?
If you log into a paid account, you will be taken to your homepage with the Message Inbox and New Jobs of Interest sections. If you log into an account and are taken to the payment screen, it means that the email address is registered, but does not have a paid subscription associated with it. Please check to see if you are entering the email address you received on your payment confirmation to log into your paid subscription.
-
I am receiving a Gateway error when I enter my credit card information. What does this mean and was I charged for a subscription?
If you receive a Gateway error after entering and submitting your credit card information, this charge will not be processed to your card. This error typically means that your billing zip code does not match what is on file with your bank or credit card company. If you have recently moved, please check with your bank or credit card provider to confirm the address they have on file for you.
-
Can I pay for a subscription with a prepaid card?
Yes, we do accept prepaid Visa, MasterCard, or American Express cards, as well as other payment methods.
-
Are all of the jobs on FlexJobs work-from-home jobs?
Although many jobs on FlexJobs can be worked remotely, including from home, our definition of "flexible" also includes part-time, freelance, temporary, seasonal, and flexible schedule jobs, many of which do require the worker to report to a specific location some or all of the time.
-
Some of the remote jobs I see on FlexJobs list a city, state or country. Why is that?
Partial Remote jobs require employees to be close to a specific location in case the company needs the worker to come into the office for meetings, trainings, certifications or other events. For more information, read this helpful article: 10 Reasons At-Home Jobs Require Locations.
-
How do I apply for jobs on FlexJobs?
First, you need to have a paid subscription to FlexJobs to see employers, view full job details, or apply for any job. Each employer decides how it wants you to apply for jobs through FlexJobs. Employers can set up the job post to allow you to apply through FlexJobs, or require you to apply directly from the careers page on their websites.
Some companies may request that you e-mail your resume and cover letter instead of applying through FlexJobs or their own system. When this happens, the company's e-mail address will be provided in the job listing on FlexJobs.
-
How do I search for work-from-home jobs that have no in-office requirements?
To search for positions on our site, we recommend using the keyword search, which is available across the top of the site. The keyword search is set to search our database for related jobs with that title or qualification. We do recommend putting in your location with your keyword to ensure you see all positions that can be done locally, nationally, and internationally from your location.
Additionally, once a keyword search is run, you will have the option to tailor your search further with location information, job type, flexibility preference, and more. Learn more about using the keyword search to enhance your job search.
-
How can I search by multiple search criteria?
We recommend using the Advanced Search to search by job types, location, areas of interest, schedules, and more. You can select multiple criteria to find the best jobs to match your skill sets and the type of flexibility you are seeking. Learn more about best practices for using the Advanced Search Options.
-
Are the jobs on FlexJobs legitimate?
Yes! Our amazing job research team hand-screens every single job and company added to our site, so you will only find jobs and companies that are legitimate, professional, and offer at least one type of flexibility.
We do not post positions that we find questionable or anything from companies that do not meet our strict criteria for legitimacy. Our purpose is to help job seekers find legitimate flexible jobs and to make the job search experience a better, safer, and faster one. We do the hard work of researching every single position, so that our subscribers can apply without fear of scams, identity theft, fraud, or other issues.
-
Are there jobs I can do in addition to my full-time position?
Yes! Flexible jobs are ideal for many job seekers who are looking to make additional money while maintaining their full-time position. Jobs that offer part-time schedules or are supplemental income opportunities, or those with flexible schedules, or remote work options can be done around a 40-hour job. FlexJobs does specialize in professional jobs, so many of these positions do still require education or experience to perform them and oftentimes do have time requirements.
Here are several articles from the FlexJobs blog to help you get started finding “side jobs” to supplement your full-time job: Should You Take a Second Job for Supplemental Income?, How to Start Freelancing for Supplemental Income, and 5 Reasons to Find a Part-Time Job for Supplemental Income.
-
Are jobs removed from the FlexJobs database when they are filled?
We hand-clean our database regularly to keep our listings as current and accurate as possible. We remove filled positions on a daily basis. In the unfortunate case that you ever come across a listing that has a broken link or is closed, please use the "Report Job" link at the bottom of the job listing and we will research the listing and respond to let you know if the job is expired or if the website was just experiencing issues.

If I am living abroad, but am a U.S. citizen, can I apply for U.S. jobs?
We frequently hear from U.S. citizens who are living abroad who are interested in remote jobs with U.S. companies. There are certainly some employers that can hire internationally and even some of the U.S. national positions may consider working with a U.S. citizen abroad, but it is up to each individual employer to make that decision. Location requirements on remote jobs can vary from employer to employer, as can their flexibility with international hires.
Here are answers to some of our most commonly asked questions about international job searching on FlexJobs.
-
If I am not a U.S. citizen, can I apply for U.S. jobs?
If you do not have U.S. citizenship, but are living in the U.S. (such as under a H-4 visa), or if you are planning to move to the U.S. and are looking for jobs that can sponsor you, it is up to each individual employer on how it handles international candidates. Some employers are more than willing to consider hiring a job candidate who requires a work visa, and others do not have the capacity to hire anyone who is not a U.S. citizen. There are also many international companies hiring on FlexJobs.
We encourage you to read our blog post about finding international flexible jobs on FlexJobs to help provide more information. Then, you should start looking at our "work from anywhere" job listings, which have little to no restriction on where you work from, and those companies are usually better equipped to handle international applicants. Additionally, we have an "International" jobs section that you can explore as well.
-
What do the different icons mean on a job listing?
Each job listing has icons next to it that show the location requirements and accolades associated with the company. In this article, you can learn more about the job icons on the job listings.
-
Why isn't salary listed on a job posting?
Unfortunately, nowadays it is increasingly rare to have employers include salary/pay rate information upfront in job postings. And since it is entirely up to each individual employer to decide if it is going to include that information in a job posting, you will only be able to see what employers want to share. It is typical for employers to discuss salary and pay scale during or after the first round of interviews. Read more about salaries and job posts on our blog.
